Michael Elrod – “The Founder”

Michael Elrod is the founder of the Valor Outdoor Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to helping veterans reconnect through outdoor experiences and community.

After serving in the United States Navy, including time in Special Warfare, Michael was medically retired following severe injuries. Like many veterans, he faced the challenges of transitioning out of the military. After losing several close friends to suicide, he made it his mission to take action and support others who have served.

Michael has built the foundation from the ground up, personally investing his time and resources into creating programs centered around overlanding, off-roading, fishing, golf, and other outdoor activities. These experiences are designed to bring veterans together, rebuild connections, and provide a sense of purpose.

He continues to lead from the front—organizing events, building vehicles, and working directly with veterans. His goal is simple: If even one veteran is helped, the mission is worth it.

Gene — “The Engineer”

Gene began his career with the Army Corps of Engineers, building a strong foundation in technical problem-solving and discipline. After his military service, he spent time in Steamboat Springs earning what he jokingly calls a “PhD in skiing,” before going on to earn a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Colorado State University.

He now serves as the Director of Applications Engineering at Velo3D, a metal 3D printing company, where he applies advanced engineering solutions to cutting-edge manufacturing challenges. Outside of work, Gene is restoring a 1979 Chevy K5 Blazer and enjoys skiing, mountain biking, brewing beer, and smoking meats.

Jamie - “ The Guy”

Hello all, my name is Jamie [Redacted], a veteran who was medically retired after serving [redacted] years, including [redacted] years of active operational experience abroad.

I’ve always had a passion for the outdoors, especially overlanding. While I’m still working on mastering the off-road side of things, the freedom and reset it provides have been a huge part of my healing and growth.

One of my long-term goals is to live full-time out of my Jeep and travel across the country. To the right is my diesel Gladiator

Katelea and Tyler - “The Power Couple”

Hey there! I’m Katelea (Kate-Lee) Wilson and did five and a half years in the United States Marine Corps as a Data System Administrator turned Command and Control Clerk at a Battalion level. Currently living the Coast Guard active duty spouse life with my husband, Tyler.

When not working my normal 9-5, we are usually out exploring our environment whether it's off-road or on a race track. You can guarantee I have a camera in hand and the dogs are in tow!

Paul — “The Do-Everything Bearded Wonder”

Paul served eight years in the United States Army, reaching the rank of E-5 Sergeant. During his service, he deployed to Afghanistan conducting convoy operations and also served overseas in Djibouti and Kenya. His time in uniform built a foundation of leadership, adaptability, and mission-focused execution.

Outside of the military, Paul has a strong passion for the outdoors and hands-on work. He enjoys playing nine-ball and eight-ball pool, off-roading, and building highly capable off-road vehicles. Specializing in Jeeps, he is deeply involved in the off-road community and brings a wealth of technical knowledge and real-world experience.

Paul’s expertise in vehicle builds and off-road capability is incredibly important to the Valor Outdoor Foundation, helping ensure our equipment is reliable, capable, and ready to support veterans in the field.
